Brewers GM says team has talked to Ryan Braun about moving to first base

Ryan Braun

The big-name arrivals this week of Christian Yelich (via trade) and Lorenzo Cain (via free agency) could mean some major lineup shuffling for the Milwaukee Brewers next season.

Brewers general manager David Stearns said on Friday that the team has spoken to former National League MVP outfielder Ryan Braun about the possibility of moving to first base, per Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.

The 34-year-old Braun has played primarily in left field throughout his 11-year MLB career. But Yelich has gotten most of his career reps in left as well, while Cain has experience at multiple outfield positions.

The Brewers already have Eric Thames at first base. But Thames struggles to hit lefties, making a platoon with the right-handed-hitting Braun an intriguing possibility. If Braun is not open to the idea of moving into more of a part-time gig at first however, perhaps Milwaukee considers potentially trading him (as they reportedly did within the last year).
