Coco Crisp was suspended one game by MLB for tossing his bat at umpire D.J. Reyburn after striking out during Thursday’s game, the league announced Friday.
The Oakland A’s outfielder struck out to end the top of the 5th against the Houston Astros and seemed to be upset. He discarded his bat, but it went towards Reyburn and actually hit the umpire in the foot.
The video makes it seem pretty unintentional.

Crisp said as much after the game.
“My intentions definitely were not to hit him,” Crisp said via CSN Bay Area. “Just me going back and looking at it, I was like … ‘That was way too close.’ That was pretty bad. … I didn’t mean for it to come out where it was gonna hit him. I was mad, so I was trying to say, ‘Well, you hit it’ type of thing, and it just went way too close.”
Crisp was upset with a strike call earlier in the at-bat, which could have contributed to Reyburn having a quick trigger finger, as he quickly tossed Crisp from the game.
