Devon Travis’ right knee injury may force him to go under the knife.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Sunday that an MRI on Travis’ knee “revealed a bone bruise with a very small flap of cartilage caught in the joint.” The 25-year-old second baseman will likely require a knee scope but is expected to be ready for Spring Training.
Travis is done for the remainder of Toronto’s playoff run and has been replaced by first baseman Justin Smoak on the postseason roster. He finished the regular season with a slash line of .300/.332/.454 with 11 home runs and 50 RBIs. Travis is under team control through 2020 and doesn’t become arbitration-eligible until 2018, so the good news is that this injury isn’t likely to affect him from an earnings standpoint. Hey, maybe he’ll even land a get-well suit from Sportsnet for his troubles.
