The Baltimore Orioles are bringing back franchise great Eddie Murray in a role of special adviser.
In the midst of one of the worst seasons in team history, the Orioles are making changes both on and off the field in an effort to turn things around for the future. Baltimore recently traded away Manny Machado and Zach Britton in separate deals for prospects, signaling the start of the rebuild. The Orioles also announced philosophical changes that will take place within the organization in an attempt to keep pace with more forward-thinking teams.
On Wednesday, Hall of Famer Eddie Murray announced he will be returning to the Orioles in an advisory role.
O’s announce Hall of Famer Eddie Murray as a special advisor to ownership. Had breakfast with John Angelos and talked about a role. He’s gonna be at ST and make some suggestions about how to improve things. He said if it were just a figurehead job he wouldn’t have accepted.

Eddie Murray said John Angelos made his decision to rejoin the Os easy: "He was letting me know that there’s definitely going to be a change made here. They said this is their chance to shine, also, and they would really like to get this down here on this field turned around."

Why is Eddie Murray coming back to #orioles now? "I’m not going to say it’s broke, but it’s pretty close. They’re not playing very well and hopefully just come in and maybe add something. We’ll see what I’m capable of doing.”

Murray joins the legendary Brooks Robinson as former Orioles who have recently been brought back by the club as advisers. Murray spent 13 seasons in an Orioles uniform, primarily as a first baseman. He was a member of the team’s last World Series-winning team in 1983 and has his uniform No. 33 retired by the club. Murray was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003.
The Orioles likely have a long road ahead of them in terms of building a team that can once again compete for the division title. Changing their approach in areas like analytics and international signings combined with bringing back players who have had success in the organization is a good start.
