The inevitable has come for Johnny Cueto.
The San Francisco Giants announced on Wednesday that Cueto will undergo Tommy John surgery on Thursday.
The #SFGiants announced today that right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow. Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the procedure at the Kerlin Jobe clinic in Los Angeles.
Cueto went 3-2 with a 3.23 ERA in nine starts this season.

Cueto came out hot to start the season but was then sidelined with elbow issues. He was not the same pitcher when he returned after two months off and complained about experiencing elbow pain.
Earlier this week, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said the surgery was a “strong possibility” for Cueto.
The Giants will be in a tough spot with Cueto now. They signed him to a six-year, $130 million contract before the 2016 season. Now it looks like the middle two seasons of that deal will essentially go to waste due to the surgery and recovery time.
