Report: Mets could offer Jacob deGrom long-term deal
On the heels of a disappointing season, the New York Mets may be looking to lock down one of their few standout players.
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag, the Mets will likely explore the possibility of a contract extension with pitcher Jacob deGrom. The right-hander has three years of arbitration remaining, but the Mets could look to lock him down long-term.
Any deal New York makes would likely seek to but out at least the first year of free agency.
The 29-year-old deGrom has become the Mets’ most consistent pitcher, with Noah Syndergaard hit by injury and Matt Harvey having a career-worst year. deGrom, on the other hand, gave the Mets 201 innings with a 3.53 ERA and 239 strikeouts, and looks to be the safest bet for a long-term investment.
