New York Post takes shot at Alex Rodriguez on newspaper cover
On Wednesday, Alex Rodriguez appeared in his first game since 2013 and hit a single in his first at-bat against the Phillies. He also drew a walk before ending his day in the sixth inning.
Because Rodriguez is such an easy target, the New York Post was more than willing to take advantage of the opportunity that presented itself by taking a shot at the former MVP. The above cover of Thursday’s edition makes note of Rodriguez hitting a single and followed it up with an asterisk and insinuation it would have been an home run had A-Rod still be using performance enhancing drugs.
As for Rodriguez, he was happy to get the first hit out of the way and even joked around a bit during the game.
“I was happy I just made contact, and I was pleasantly surprised it was a base hit,” Rodriguez said according to ESPN. “I was a little nervous. I told [umpire Marty Foster] to take it easy on the old man, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in the box.”
At this point, A-Rod probably won’t find too many people willing to take it easy on him away from the diamond, or on it for that matter.
