Watch: Paul Goldschmidt had the most low-key curtain call ever
Paul Goldschmidt has been off to a scorching start since joining the St Louis Cardinals.
The first baseman homered three times in the Cardinals’ second game of the season, a win over Milwaukee. He homered two games later in the series finale against the Brewers. Then in the team’s home opener on Friday, Goldschmidt took San Diego Padres reliever Trey Wingenter deep.
The home fans were stoked to see their new star go deep and wanted a curtain call. Goldschmidt obliged — barely.

Not only does that showcase Goldschmidt’s modesty, but also his understanding of the team element of the game. His homer only made the score 5-3, so he wasn’t in a celebratory mood with his team trailing. He said as much after the game.
Goldschmidt gives the Cardinals the kind of superstar bat they haven’t had for a while. Based on how his curtain call went, the fans in St Louis are going to love him.
