Twitter brings out Jeffrey Maier comparisons on controversial Astros homer (Video)
The Houston Astros were the beneficiaries of a controversial home run in Game 2 of the ALCS, and Twitter was ready with the jokes.
Astros shortstop Carlos Correa hit a line drive to right that just barely snuck over the wall, with New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge in pursuit. A young fan caught the ball — and there was some dispute as to whether they reached over the wall to reel the ball in.

21 years ago in the ALCS, a young fan named Jeffrey Maier reached over the wall at Yankee Stadium to reel in a home run ball that would have been a routine flyout otherwise, helping the Yankees to their 1996 World Series win.
The coincidence was not lost on Twitter.
Jeffrey Maier's phone is blowing up right now.

The idea of the Yankees getting Jeffrey Maier'd was too much even for this insane universe to put into being.

In general, there were other jokes about the young fan who may have helped steal a run for Houston.

Despite the jokes, the umpires upheld the original call of home run after a replay review — and it appeared to be the correct decision, as the ball looked to be over the fence whether the fan caught it or not.
