Umpire Jeff Nelson leaves game with concussion after being hit by foul balls
There was a delay at the start of the fifth inning of Game 3 of the ALCS on Tuesday due to an umpire change after Jeff Nelson left with a concussion.
Home plate Jeff Nelson was hit by two foul balls during the game — one in the face mask and another in the left shoulder. He felt dinged up afterwards and said he would get a water break between innings. He later decided to check out of the game and was replaced behind the plate by Kerwin Danley.
The umpiring crew was left without one in left field as a result of the shifts:

The delay lasted nearly 20 minutes before the top of the fifth began. Danley had to put all the proper gear on to umpire behind the plate.
FS1 later shared that Nelson had suffered a concussion.
