Anthony Edwards on Saturday sent a message to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ doubters, both with his play and his words.
Edwards first proved himself on the court. The T-Wolves star tallied 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists to lead his team to a Game 1 win in their first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
After the game, Edwards was asked about how most members of the national media picked the Lakers to win the series prior to Game 1. Edwards basically told them not to switch sides now, with the Timberwolves up 1-0.
“They still got the Lakers,” said Edwards. “Lakers are supposed to win. That’s just how it’s supposed to go. We not supposed to be here. We just going to compete to the best of our ability.”

Edwards did not have his usual massive scoring game. But he did hit several timely shots to thwart any threat of a Los Angeles comeback, including an incredible moment after scoring on Lakers star Luka Doncic in the fourth quarter.
Armed with homecourt advantage to begin the series, the third-seeded Lakers were considered favorites over the sixth-seeded Timberwolves. But a quick look at the standings would show that only one game separates the two teams in terms of regular season record. Minnesota also finished with a stellar 24-17 record on the road, tied for second-best in the Western Conference this season.
Edwards and the Timberwolves entered Saturday’s game with an underdog mentality. They’re now the favorites after taking Game 1.
