Carmelo Anthony: Knicks ‘gotta do something’ in free agency
Carmelo Anthony is ready to see the New York Knicks go for it this summer.
With the team looking at at least $18 million in cap space this offseason and fresh off a meeting with team president Phil Jackson, Anthony expressed a hope that his team would be active players in the top tier of the free agent market.
“It’s in their court. The ball is in their court,” Anthony said Monday, via Ian Begley of ESPN. “They have an opportunity, we have an opportunity to do something this offseason. We gotta do something. It’s there.”
Anthony also divulged recently that he intends to take an active role in recruiting big-name free agents to New York.
Anthony’s recent meeting with Jackson seems to have gone well and he’s on board with the Knicks’ future plans.
“I got some answers that I was looking for, and I’ll leave it at that,” Anthony said.
The Knicks have had a disappointing season, but armed with their cap room, they should be able to make some improvements. They’ve already been linked to one prominent free agent-to-be, and Anthony has spoken of his enthusiasm for the possibility of signing another.
