Charles Barkley’s playful shot at the city of Galveston, Texas has led to a billboard campaign in the city that is not being particularly kind to him.
TMZ Sports shared photos of the billboards that have popped up in Galveston mocking Barkley. One rather tamely invites him to come visit because the “water’s fine,” but others get a bit more harsh. One says Barkley has “never turned down any of our great food,” while another remarks that “our water is cleaner than your golf swing.”

The billboards are signed “Love, Galveston” but it is not clear who actually paid for them.
The ads come in response to Barkley’s dismissal of the New Orleans Pelicans, who were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. After the Pelicans fell behind 3-0 on Saturday, Barkley said they did not deserve a season-ending trip to Cancun, but should instead be sent to Galveston and its “dirty a– water.”
Barkley is highly unlikely to take the billboards seriously. If anything, this has probably been a nice bit of attention for the Texas city.
