Earlier in the week, LeBron James raised more than a few eyebrows by saying he would take a pay cut in order to teammate up with buddies Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul.
Anthony appears to be on board with the idea, but others will be needed to round out the roster. That’s where J.R. Smith comes in.
It may appear there won’t be many extra shots to go around with James, Anthony, Wade, and Paul on the same team. That doesn’t seem to matter to Smith, who would be ever so appreciative if a spot was saved for him.
“That would be dope. That’d be sick,” Smith told the New York Daily News. “I’d like to see it. I just hope they save me a spot and I’m on the team.”
Smith would like to see it because, presumably, he would be part of the proposed super team. I’m pretty sure head coaches and general managers around the league wouldn’t feel the same way since it would stand between them and a championship.
If this super team does become a reality it will, obviously, take a while for the players and their styles to mesh. As far as Smith goes, we know exactly what he will if there’s ever any doubt what he’s supposed to be doing on the floor.
