Lakers have hired a new head coach
The Los Angeles Lakers at long last have hired a new head coach.
JJ Redick has agreed on a four-year deal to become the Lakers’ new head coach, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The job reportedly was offered to Redick on Thursday.

The Lakers hiring Redick ends a saga that had gone on weeks concerning the team’s head coach vacancy.
The Lakers fired Darvin Ham in early May after being dissatisfied with the way their season ended. That was Ham’s second season as Lakers head coach.
Redick had been mentioned as a favorite for the Lakers job ever since Ham was fired. The team interviewed a few other candidates and had a flirtation with Dan Hurley, but they finally settled in on Redick. The 39-year-old Redick last played in the NBA in 2021. He has served as a commentator on ESPN since then and was an analyst during the NBA Finals this year. Redick also started a podcast with LeBron James in March, which seemed to be a prelude to his eventual hiring.
This will be Redick’s first time serving as a coach.
