LeBron James seemingly puts himself in same class as Michael Jordan

LeBron James

LeBron James has surpassed Michael Jordan in some pretty impressive categories over the last year, but most people still feel that Jordan’s six NBA titles will always keep him ahead of LeBron in the all-time greatest discussion. Does James disagree?

LeBron has said in the past that he believes Jordan is the greatest of all time, but he could be singing a different tune later in his career. For example, consider the remark James made when asked about M.J. following Tuesday night’s win over the Toronto Raptors.

We know how much LeBron loves sending cryptic messages, but it seemed pretty obvious he was implying he is closing in on Jordan. For what it’s worth, LeBron passed Jordan as the NBA’s all-time playoff leading scorer last year, and he’ll continue to pad those numbers going forward. LeBron also logged his 867th consecutive double-digit scoring game last week, breaking Jordan’s record.

Again, the debate will likely always come down to championships. Jordan was 6-for-6 in the NBA Finals, whereas LeBron has won three titles in eight trips. We know from his recent comments about the MVP race that LeBron’s self-confidence is higher than ever, but he needs to rip off several more championships to close out his career if he wants to be considered better than His Airness.
