Sacramento Kings strongly considering George Karl
The Sacramento Kings reportedly are strongly considering bringing in George Karl as a head coach this season.
USA Today’s Sam Amick reported the news Saturday and said the team is seriously considering the possibility of hiring Karl and could make a move in the coming days.
The Kings have already made one coaching change this season. They fired Mike Malone amid an 11-13 start, but replacement Tyrone Corbin has been even worse, with the team going 6-18 under him.
Amick says that GM Pete D’Alessandro, who worked with Karl in Denver, is pushing for the hire. Karl also has ties to the organization as he coached Kings advisor Chris Mullin, and has history with DeMarcus Cousins’ agents.
One potential issue is that salary an accomplished coach like Karl would command. One reason why the Kings’ interest in Karl has intensified could be due to competition; the Magic are in the market for a head coach and Karl showed interest in the job. That could be pushing them to move quickly.
