Does lawsuit settlement point to Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch?

Top Rank boxing reportedly has called off the dogs in its lawsuit filed against rival manager/Premier Boxing Champions head Al Haymon, a move that some believe could be the antecedent to a potential rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

The Vertical’s Chris Mannix says Top Rank has indefinitely postponed depositions and documents from Haymon in its suit, which alleges Haymon is in violation of the federal Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act. The antitrust violation aspect of the suit was previously dismissed.

Though Top Rank refused to divulge information to Mannix about a potential settlement in the case, he reports that one possible outcome of a settlement could be Mayweather and Pacquiao meeting again in a rematch.

Paquiao is signed to Bob Arum’s Top Rank, while Mayweather promotes himself but is managed by Haymon.

Pacquiao has long pushed for a rematch with Mayweather, saying almost immediately after his disappointing loss to Floyd last May that he had a significant shoulder injury which limited him. Though Pacquiao said entering his April win over Timothy Bradley that that would be his last fight, Arum has recently indicated Pac-Man was “torn” over his retirement decision.

Meanwhile, Mayweather fought in September against Andre Berto and won to improve to 49-0 in what he said would be his last fight. Although he says he is retired, there have been some signs lately such as these that Mayweather is planning a comeback.
