John Calipari cracks joke about assistant who went to Louisville
John Calipari knows that when you’re the coach of Kentucky’s basketball team, there’s never a bad time for a shot at rival Louisville. And he took the opportunity to take a well-timed jab on Tuesday.
Calipari was being asked by the media about the promotion he’s done for his newest book — “Success Is the Only Option: The Art of Coaching Extreme Talent — which was released last week. At one point, he was asked why his assistant coach Kenny Payne hasn’t read it.
“He went to Louisville — he doesn’t read,” Calipari joked.

Payne has been a part of Kentucky’s staff since 2010, so despite the joke, Calipari obviously thinks highly of him. But when it comes to the Kentucky-Louisville rivalry, everything is fair game. Now we just need Rick Pitino to respond like he usually does.
