Ashton Jeanty has decided to call it a wrap on his memorable college career.
The Boise State star running back Jeanty announced over social media on Tuesday that he is foregoing his final season of college eligibility in order to declare for this year’s NFL Draft. In his statement, the All-American Jeanty said that “the opportunity to play in the NFL is a dream of mine, and I’m proud to represent Boise State and all of those who have helped me along the way at the next level.”
You can read Jeanty’s full statement below.
The 21-year-old Jeanty is coming off a season for the ages with Boise State in which he rushed for 2,601 yards (just 27 off Barry Sanders’ all-time NCAA record of 2,628 set back in 1988) and 29 touchdowns. While Jeanty’s bowl-game performance left a lot to be desired, he still led the Broncos to a 12-2 record and finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up to Colorado’s Travis Hunter. Jeanty also won the Maxwell Award for college football player of the year as well as the Doak Award for the top running back in college football.
As for Jeanty’s NFL prospects, he is still projected to be a mid-first-round pick despite concerns over his size (5-foot-9) and the level of competition he faced in the Mountain West Conference. Considering some of the highlights that Jeanty produced all year, it is easy to see why teams are so high on him.
