Bill Belichick has officially hit the recruiting trail with North Carolina, and the legendary coach is utilizing all the tools available to him — even the ones he is probably not all that comfortable with.
Monday marked the first day that Belichick was permitted to visit high schools and meet with recruits. He and his son Steve Belichick spoke with “The Pat McAfee Show” from the road, and Bill revealed that he is now officially on X.
“I’m officially on Twitter,” Belichick said, referring to the social media platform’s name before it became X. “So, you can follow me there.”

McAfee was understandably taken aback, but Belichick was not joking. The coach made his first post on X Monday afternoon and had a message for one of UNC’s biggest rivals.
“‘Beat Dook’ my first words as a boy are my first words on X! Go Heels!! #GoHeels #ChapelBill #CarolinaFootball,” Belichick wrote.

Belichick’s father, Steve Belichick, was an assistant coach at UNC from 1953-1955. Belichick was born in 1952, which is why he is claiming his first words were “Beat Dook.” Tar Heels fans have long used that phrase (and its intentional misspelling) as a rallying cry to beat Duke, one of their biggest rivals.
Belichick also stunned fans last year when he joined a different social media platform. We highly doubt the 72-year-old will be doing much of his own posting, but he is clearly making an effort to keep up with the times.
