CBS college football analyst Gary Danielson made a major announcement about his career on Wednesday.
Danielson announced that he plans to retire from his role as the network’s top analyst following the 2025 season. Charles Davis, who currently serves as an analyst for the network’s NFL coverage, will replace him starting in 2026.
“I have had the greatest seat in the house for 36 years and have loved every minute of it,” Danielson said in a statement. “I have discussed the timing of this moment with CBS Sports leadership over the past few years and we felt it was important I remained with the team during our transition to the Big Ten. As we enter our second full season of Big Ten football and my 20th at CBS Sports, the timing just feels right.”

Danielson has worked in television for 36 years, and the 2025 season will be his 20th at CBS. The 73-year-old has spent his entire tenure with the network as the lead analyst for the network’s top games, initially paired with Verne Lundquist and, more recently, Brad Nessler.
Danielson’s voice has been heard on many of the most famous SEC games of the last 25 years, most famously the Auburn-Alabama “Kick Six” game in 2013.
Davis is certainly an experienced replacement. He has risen through the ranks of CBS’ NFL coverage in recent years, and was a lead college football analyst for FOX prior to that.
