Referee scolds Central Michigan cheerleaders, band (Video)
Central Michigan nearly pulled off an upset against Toledo Tuesday night, and the Chippewas may have stood a slightly better chance if not for one of the most unusual lectures you will ever hear from an official.
With Toledo deep in CMU territory and looking to build upon a 21-17 lead in the second half, the head referee stopped play to tell CMU’s cheerleading squad and band to not make noise that will interrupt Toledo’s snap count.

“There’s no noise from the band or the cheerleaders to interrupt the snap,” he said. “Reset the play clock to 25 seconds.”
The part about the band is understandable, but isn’t a cheerleader’s job to make noise for the home team and encourage fans to do the same?
Despite the scolding, Toledo ended up missing a 21-yard field goal and coming away with no points on that possession. CMU later cut the lead to 28-23 but failed to recover an onside kick.
