Texas’s handling of Charlie Strong is going spectacularly poorly.
Amidst widespread reports that Strong will be fired after the Longhorns’ season concludes, some members of the football team are threatening to boycott the final game against TCU, according to Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman.
“Some of the team is threatening to boycott the TCU game,” a source told Bohls. “Older players are trying to settle things down.”
Strong was asked about the report during his Monday press conference, and he threw cold water on it.
Charlie Strong on report of #Texas player boycott: "They won't boycott. That's not gonna happen. They know how important it is to the SRs. "

Such is the loyalty that Strong’s players have to him. It probably doesn’t help that, amid the swirling reports, Texas’s athletic director has said Strong will coach that final game, unfairly making him something of a lame duck coach and putting him in a very difficult situation publicly. While there is really no way Strong can keep his job with the results he has been getting, it seems clear that he still has the steadfast support of the locker room.
