Tua Tagovailoa announced on Monday that he is entering the NFL Draft, and that decision is a good sign about where he is at in his recovery from hip surgery.
Tagovailoa recently went to New York for some tests on his hip, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the feedback was “all positive.” The quarterback will undergo more tests before the draft.
One reason #Bama QB Tua Tagovailoa declared for the NFL Draft: I’m told his visit to NY to get an update on his medical situation was all positive. He has more tests at 12 and 16 weeks, but he got a solid before saying he was NFL bound.

Tagovailoa’s surgery was immediately labeled a success, and a previous report indicated he will be ready to throw for NFL teams before the draft. It’s safe to assume Tagovailoa is still on track for that.
While he will likely be drafted a bit lower than he would have been had he not suffered the hip injury, Tagovailoa’s stock should continue to trend up over the next few months if he has no setbacks.
Tagovailoa threw for 2,840 yards with 33 touchdowns and just three interceptions this season. He’s obviously going to be an injury risk for any team that drafts him, but that risk is one numerous teams will be willing to take.
