A.J. McCarron and Tyrann Mathieu involved in Twitter squabble
For those who love fireworks between LSU and Alabama but can’t wait for college football season, good news: A.J. McCarron and Tyrann Mathieu both have Twitter accounts and neither had any self-restraint to be afraid to take swipes at the other in 140 characters or less during a brief tiff the two had on Monday.
It started when Mathieu, who was a consensus All-American at cornerback last year, sent out the following chest-puffed-out tweet:
try throwing a corner route or a cross country on me this year!!! i’ll be waiting!!!
— Tyrann Mathieu (@TM7_Era) June 11, 2012
McCarron found out about the tweet and sent out his own message:
U can talk ab stopping something.. But actions speak louder than words. Remember that. #neworleans #14

Fair point. McCarron threw 23-of-34 for 234 yards as Bama topped LSU in the BCS title game in January while Mathieu later admitted he didn’t play well in either game against the Tide last season.
Things escalated after McCarron’s tweet. Here’s Mathieu’s response, which, like the rest of his tweets directed at the Bama QB, has since been deleted:
@10AJMcCarron everybody have a good game every now and then try having a great season back 2 back 2 BACK! DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIP NOT YOU
McCarron again:
@TM7_Era Ur right the TEAM.. That’s how we play as a TEAM.. We stick together through our losses and wins. #thatswhatmakesusgreat #wehave14

Mathieu’s reply:
@10AJMcCarron you have 1,THE school has 14! you play your part well thanks to great coaching! but anyways we’ll talk nov 3rd
We’re sure Nick Saban is flattered by that one. Meanwhile, McCarron brought the spat to a close when he sent out this to Tide fans.
Bama fans don’t talk anymore ab it. Let’s just sit back quietly and wait our turn. Y’all know the date. It’s comin. #november3rd #bamanation

Overall, a so-so Twitter battle. But we’ll call this one in Mathieu’s favor for calling McCarron out over the 14-titles reference. Final score: 6-3. Just like an actual LSU-Alabama game.
