Lions CB Aaron Berry Tells Fans they can go Back to Being Broke and Miserable, Apologizes

The Lions were the latest victim of the Saints’ explosive offense. Detroit lost in the Wild Card round of the playoffs 45-28 Saturday. They were actually up 14-10 at halftime, but failed to stop the Saints in the second half, allowing touchdowns on five straight possessions.

Cornerback Aaron Berry (pictured beat by Robert Meachem), who had seven tackles and three passes defended, heard criticism from Lions fans via Twitter after the game. He responded with a major insult.

“Y’all can go back to being Broke & Miserable…now back to regular scheduled programming,” he tweeted after the game.

As you can imagine, that didn’t go over very well with Lions fans. It didn’t take long before he became a local trending topic on Twitter, so he apologized.

“I apologize to my loyal fans for my tweet…jus disgusting how ppl can get when they don’t know nothin at all.”

Berry should have known better than to take a page out of the LeBron James playbook. One of the worst moves a professional athlete can make is criticizing the fans. Sometimes they deserve it, but this was a mean-spirited remark that went too far.

Even though Berry apologized, I don’t think that will help fans forget what he said.

Wondering what drove Berry to that point? We tracked down a few tweets that will give you an idea of what he faced:

Next Christmas I’m gonna get @Lockdown717 some cathcing lessons & some gloves w some grip since he can’t catch a ball thrown right at him

Change you @ name. You are by far the worst CB on our squad @LockDown717
