Aaron Rodgers has laughable quote after Jets’ disastrous loss to Patriots

Aaron Rodgers smirks during a press conference

The New York Jets found a new rock bottom for themselves in Week 8, and Aaron Rodgers definitely did not help matters after the game either.

Rodgers and the Jets suffered an embarrassing loss on Sunday to the lowly New England Patriots, who came in with a 1-6 record. Patriots starting QB Drake Maye had to leave with a concussion in the first quarter, but Jacoby Brissett then took over under center and did just enough to lead the team to the 25-22 win. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson also added two TDs, including the go-ahead score with less than 30 seconds remaining.

After the game, Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich referred to the loss as “a moment of darkness.” That led to a laughable quote from the Jets star quarterback Rodgers in response.

“I’ve been in the darkness,” said Rodgers of Ulbrich’s comment, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. “You gotta go in there and make peace with it.”

That comment might be appropriate if you are edgy 17-year-old posting on an Internet forum. But when you are a 40-year-old former Super Bowl MVP whose team is now 2-6 on the season, it doesn’t quite stick the landing. Jets fans would probably appreciate it if Rodgers, who threw for a modest 233 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, focused on leading the team out of the darkness instead of making peace with it.

Sometimes though, these jokes just write themselves. With Rodgers talking about being in the darkness, many will think back to the four-time MVP’s infamous “darkness retreat” back in 2023.
