Report: Bears players met with OC to express frustration
The Chicago Bears have struggled in their first three games with Caleb Williams, and players are hoping a meeting with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron will help get them on the right path.
Bears veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis told Jay Glazer of FOX Sports that Lewis, Williams and tight end Cole Kmet held a meeting with Waldron last week to vent some of their frustrations with the team’s offense. Glazer said Sunday that the players encouraged Waldron to “get more aggressive” and not be afraid to coach players up.
“I talked to Marcedes Lewis last night. Marcedes said he, Cole Kmet and their quarterback Caleb Williams all went and had a private meeting with (Shane Waldron) and said, ‘Hey coach, we’re not a Pop Warner team. You gotta coach us up. Coach me up even though I’m in year 19, coach up Caleb even though he’s a rookie. You gotta get more aggressive in coaching us together.’ And he does think there’s gonna be a difference,” Glazer said.

The players felt the meeting was productive, according to Glazer.
Williams threw the ball plenty in Chicago’s 21-16 loss to the Indianapolis Colts last week. The No. 1 overall pick went 33/52 for 363 yards and 2 touchdowns, though he had 2 interceptions as well. The touchdown passes were the first two of Williams’ NFL career.
Chicago ranks near the bottom of the league in total offense through three games. Waldron is in his first season as OC of the Bears, and he has likely made an effort to not throw too much at Williams. The former USC star and his teammates seem to think Waldron is being too conservative.
Williams made one big change in Week 3, and we could see a few others in the wake of the meeting with Waldron.
