Bobby Wagner during a game

Bobby Wagner is one of the best players in Seattle Seahawks history, but he says the team did not treat him as such when he was released this week.

Wagner was released on Wednesday in a move that saved the Seahawks more than $15 million against the salary cap. He thanked Seattle after the move was announced, but he clearly is not thrilled with his former team.

On Friday, Wagner called out the Seahawks on Twitter for not giving him a heads up that he was going to be cut.

Crazy part about all this. I played there for 10 years & I didn’t even hear it from them that I wasn’t coming back.

It is not uncommon for players to find out about trades and roster moves on social media. We have seen that happen across many different sports, and there is no way to avoid it in some situations. Wagner obviously feels the Seahawks could have handled his release differently.

Wagner, 31, spent the first 10 seasons of his NFL career with the Seahawks. He was a core member of the “Legion of Boom” defense that dominated the league and propelled Seattle to a win in Super Bowl XLVII. He had a career-high 170 total tackles in 16 games last season, so he should have no trouble finding a new home.
