With Jimmy Garoppolo potentially looking at missing multiple games due to a shoulder injury and Tom Brady suspended through Week 4, the New England Patriots are going to have to sign a veteran backup quarterback for at least the next two games.
Boomer Esiason thinks they should reach out to Peyton Manning.
During the “NFL Today” broadcast on CBS Sunday, Esiason and his colleagues were going over the list of available quarterbacks who are either free agents or on other teams’ practice squads.

“I’ve got a name for you, and the guy’s not even on the list,” Esiason said. “He’s busy doing a lot of commercials — Peyton Manning. Why not? That’d be great.”
Esiason was smiling when he said it, so we can’t imagine he was serious. He did, however, mention Manning’s name two or three more times when going over the list.
We all know this would never happen. Even if Manning was interested in coming back to play (and he’s not), he wouldn’t sign with his biggest rival just to start two games before being replaced by Brady. Besides, Manning recently hinted he is considering a new career. Nice thought, Boomer.
