Caleb Williams sounds more than ready to take the field for the Chicago Bears’ first playoff game in five years.
The Bears quarterback was asked Tuesday about where his head is at ahead of his team’s Wild Card matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. Williams’ answer was loud and clear.
“I am built for these moments,” said Williams.
“… I’ve been in a bunch of big games before. A bunch of big rivalry games. I can do whatever my team needs me to do, whether that’s stay in the pocket, whether that’s run, whether that’s scramble, hand the ball off 30 times, and be energetic about it, whatever it takes.”
While it’s true that Williams has played in a few rivalry games before at the college level, he didn’t always perform up to expectations. The pro level is also a different beast altogether.
However, Williams has indeed been a clutch performer for the Bears throughout big spots this season. Look no further than the unfathomable Week 16 comeback Williams led against the very same Packers he’s facing on Saturday. The second-year QB’s icy celebration after throwing the game-winning touchdown is already cemented in recent Bears lore.
Williams will need to prove he can do it again under the playoff spotlight. If the USC product can topple the Packers on the postseason stage, he may already win Chicagoans’ undying loyalty no matter how far they go the rest of the way.
