Darrelle Revis is back for his second stint with the Jets and the scenery has changed quite a bit since the first time he was there. Rex Ryan is gone and was replaced by Todd Bowles. Mark Sanchez is also no longer with team, having signed with the Eagles. As far as Revis is concerned, that’s perfectly fine.
Despite making it to the AFC Championship Game in back-to-back seasons, Revis says the Jets did it without much help from the quarterback position.
“We almost made it [in 2009 and ’10], and we didn’t have a quarterback,” Revis told the New York Post. “Mark was solid. He wasn’t elite.”
Solid did help the Jets to two straight conference title games. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to make it over the hump and that’s always going to be the lasting memory.
While Sanchez’s regular season numbers during each of those years weren’t necessarily anything to write home about, he was better during the postseason, posting a quarterback rating of 94.3 over the six playoff games in 2009 and 2010. That said, it’s still Mark Sanchez and to say he was a lightning rod during his tenure in New York would be an understatement. Being the subject of jokes and criticism was was a near everyday occurrence.
Shifting gears to this year’s team, the Jets still don’t have an elite quarterback so nothing has changed on that front since Revis last wore green and white. Given the way Geno Smith has looked in his first two years in the NFL, Mark Sanchez wouldn’t be the worst option in the world.
