Demaryius Thomas plans to see his mother during playoff bye week
The Denver Broncos earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC on Sunday with a win over the San Diego Chargers. That means they have a bye and don’t have to play for two weeks, and Demaryius Thomas plans to use the time off to visit with someone he hasn’t seen in quite some time — his mother.
Thomas’ mother, Katina Stuckey Smith, was released from prison in November. She had been there since February 2000 after being convicted of drug trafficking. Thomas has not seen her since she got out.

Thomas had an incredibly rough upbringing, and you can read more about it here. Smith was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison after she turned down a plea deal, but President Obama commuted her sentence along with 45 other drug offenders last year.
It’s hard not to respect and feel sorry for Thomas after you hear all that he has gone through. Hopefully he’s able to establish a good relationship with his mother now that she has a chance to be part of his life.
