As Laquon Treadwell showed us earlier this month, rookies are often the subject of hazing by veteran members of the team. It’s a rite of passage of sorts. However, in Dallas, it sounds like the fourth overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft won’t be subjected to such treatment.
TMZ’s cameras recently caught up with Dez Bryant, who said there will be no hazing or pranks directed at running back Ezekiel Elliott, citing his importance to the team and mind frame he needs to be in to be successful.
The Cowboys used their first-round pick on the former Ohio State running back with the hopes he can lead Dallas’ rushing attack and make things a little easier for Tony Romo. Elliott will be running behind one of the best offensive lines in football, which will certainly be to his advantage.
Darren McFadden ran for more than 1,000 yards for the first time since 2010 last year and DeMarco Murray led the NFL in rushing yards in 2014 with 1,845, so there is reason to be optimistic about what the explosive Elliott can do in a Cowboys uniform. And Bryant makes a good point. It will probably serve Elliott better if he isn’t constantly looking over his shoulder wondering where the next rookie prank is coming from. Bryant, after all, should know how this feels considering he was on the wrong end of terrible rookie hazing once.
