Dez Bryant to undergo MRI after suffering knee injury
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was able to play through a knee injury he suffered during Sunday night’s win over the Chicago Bears, but he is apparently banged up enough that the team feels he needs an MRI.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn’t seem overly concerned after the game.
“We feel OK,” he said, via Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPN.com. “We’re going to do some other things, too. But right here, yes. Right now, we’re fine. We’ll give it another look-see with the MRI.”
Bryant sustained the injury on the second play of the game when he landed awkwardly on his right leg. He was able to return after taking a few plays off and finished with three catches for 40 yards and a touchdown. While that is certainly a good sign, Jones is not ready to predict that Bryant will be given the all-clear.
“I saw how the knee took it. That was a little concerning,” Jones said. “I did see him moving around, but I saw Michael Irvin — I’ll never forget that — go back out and play [after an ACL injury]. Let’s just see how the MRI goes. We’ve got what we’ve seen in here, and that’s not something I would be alarmed about.”
Bryant spoke with the media very briefly after the game, assuring reporters he’ll be back and “won’t be too long.”
While Dak Prescott has played well in place of Tony Romo, the Cowboys cannot afford to lose Bryant for any period of time after losing their starting quarterback. But as we learned when he made these comments during the offseason, Dez is willing to play hurt. We can’t imagine he’ll miss much — if any — time.
