Report: Doctor gave Drew Brees ‘very positive’ feedback on shoulder

Drew Brees may miss his second straight game when the New Orleans Saints face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4, but it sounds like he is on the right path toward recovery.

ESPN’s Ed Werder is reporting that Brees flew to Birmingham for an evaluation from Dr. James Andrews and received “very positive” feedback. Brees said the evaluation went beyond his expectations and that he also took part in a rehab session while at Andrews’ facility. Andrews is the one who performed the rotator cuff surgery on Brees back in 2006.

From the sound of it, Brees is almost certainly going to play again this season. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he sat out another game while regaining strength in his shoulder, but Saints fans can be optimistic that the shoulder injury is not as serious as some reports indicated.

Brees injured his throwing shoulder in a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it was obvious it affected his ability to throw down field. You can see a video of the play he was injured on here.

The Saints are off to an 0-3 start this season and their playoff hopes are fading fast. Even with Brees, their offense has looked lost at times without Jimmy Graham. Don’t expect that to change a whole lot even when Brees returns.
