Ed Reed takes shot at Charley Casserly for passing on him

For every NFL Draft bust, there is a player like Ed Reed who is somehow overlooked by most teams and goes on to become one of the greatest players of all time at his position. Numerous scouts and executives passed on Reed back in 2002, but he chose to single one out on Thursday night.

Reed was interviewed during the annual Hall of Fame Game, and he was asked about all the teams that missed on him during the 2002 draft. He specifically mentioned Charley Casserly, who was the general manager of the Houston Texans from 2002 to 2005.

“Charley Casserly was one who got it wrong when I interviewed with Houston,” Reed said. “It’s funny that he’s an analyst still doing that stuff.”

Casserly, who currently evaluates players and works as an analyst for NFL Network, had the No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 draft. He infamously selected David Carr, who went on to become one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history. To his credit, Carr recently mocked himself over his disappointing career.

Reed was taken by the Baltimore Ravens with the 24th overall pick, and he went on to become one of the best safeties to ever play and a first ballot Hall of Famer. Casserly isn’t the only one kicking himself for not picking him, but it doesn’t help that he ended up with Carr.
