Eric Mangini to interview for Raiders job
One would think that Eric Mangini’s days as an NFL head coach are over, but nothing can be ruled out when dealing with the Oakland Raiders.
According to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, Mangini is one of the names on Oakland’s list of potential head coaching candidates. The San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach will interview for the position at some point this week.
Mangini is one of the many products of the Bill Belichick coaching tree. Like several others (Josh McDaniels, Charlie Weis, etc.), he has ultimately been unsuccessful as a head coach. Mangini was 23-26 in three seasons with the New York Jets and 10-22 in two seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
Given how badly the Raiders reportedly wanted Jim Harbaugh, it appears they have already missed out on their man. Even still, I highly doubt they will hire Mangini. If the Raiders are going to make a hire like that, they might as well just stick with Tony Sparano.
