The Atlanta Falcons have made it clear that Kirk Cousins is their starting quarterback heading into the 2024 season, but that does not mean fans are ready to stop razzing them about the surprise approach they took in the NFL Draft.
On Thursday, the Falcons shared a hype video that showed Cousins throwing a pass in practice. The post on X was simply captioned “Kirk” with an eyeballs emoji.

Naturally, countless fans responded to the post by trolling the Falcons over their decision to draft Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 pick.

That is only a small glimpse into the situation the Falcons have created. Cousins will make $100 million guaranteed over the next two seasons. He almost certainly had no idea Atlanta was going to draft his eventual replacement with the No. 8 overall pick, otherwise he might have given more consideration to re-signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
Even a prominent NFL reporter had a savage way of describing the Falcons’ decision to draft Penix. If Cousins plays well and Atlanta wins, the jokes will probably stop. Should the opposite happen, things will get awkward in a hurry.
