Report: Jets could release Antonio Cromartie after the season

Antonio-Cromartie

Antonio Cromartie could be a cap casualty for the New York Jets.

The cornerback seems likely to be released at the end of the season, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Cimini believes that, with Cromartie due no guaranteed money and facing an $8 million cap charge, the Jets will move on, particularly since they can wipe that entire amount from the cap if they do. It would be a simple way to get out from under the three remaining years of his deal.

Cromartie, 32, hasn’t been too impactful for the Jets this season. He’s started every game but has yet to record an interception to go along with 26 tackles, though he has been on kick return duty.

This is clearly not an outcome Cromartie would expect, especially considering he called himself and Darrelle Revis the best cornerbacks in the league a year and a half ago.
