This outcome comes off as a surprise to many who were following the situation.
Rudolph was owed $7.6 million for the upcoming season, but the Vikings wanted to sign him to a long-term deal that would lower his salary cap number for the season. The Vikings were looking to trade Rudolph, drafted tight end Irv Smith, and Rudolph said he wouldn’t take a pay cut. Something must have changed to lead to an agreement between the sides.
The 29-year-old caught 64 passes on 82 targets for 634 yards and four touchdowns last season. He has played in all 16 games for four straight seasons.
