Report: ‘Livid’ Giants coach made Odell Beckham apologize to team
Odell Beckham Jr. recently sat down for an interview with ESPN’s Josina Anderson that has been airing in segments, and New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur is furious over some of the things the star wide receiver said.
In a portion of his interview that aired Friday, Beckham said a lot of why the Giants have started 1-3 after a 3-13 season last year has to do with “the energy that we don’t have.” He also urged his teammates to play with some “heart,” and Shurmur later told reporters he thinks scheming is the issue and not effort.
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Shurmur was “absolutely livid” over the remarks and asked Beckham to apologize to the team, which he did on Saturday night.

Unfortunately, the interview had already been taped. More of it aired on Sunday, and you could argue that the latest clips make Beckham sound even worse. He was critical of Shurmur’s play-calling while speaking with ESPN’s Josina Anderson and also had a puzzling response to a question about Eli Manning.
The Giants signed Beckham to a five-year, $95 million contract extension before the season, so you know they aren’t happy about the message he is sending. You can’t blame Shurmur for being angry with a player who is supposed to be a team leader.
