The Dallas Cowboys officially announced on Sunday that they have parted ways with Jason Garrett, and that is because they have already decided who they are bringing in to replace him.
The Cowboys have hired Mike McCarthy to be their next head coach, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports first reported. The two sides have agreed to terms on a contract and a press conference is expected later this week.

McCarthy later confirmed the news to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Jerry Jones prioritized experience in finding a replacement for Garrett, and McCarthy has plenty of that. He was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers for 12-plus seasons before being fired last year. The 56-year-old had an overall record of 125-77-2 in the regular season with the Packers and went 10-8 in the playoffs. He led the team to a Super Bowl win in 2010.
The Cowboys also interviewed Marvin Lewis for their head coaching job, but McCarthy will be a much more popular hire among fans. He’s an offensive-minded coach who has experience working with top quarterbacks like Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. While there were some unflattering reports about him toward the end of his time in Green Bay, McCarthy’s time there was ultimately a success.
