Report: Mike McCarthy ‘leading candidate’ for Jets’ head coach job
One candidate appears to have a clear advantage as the New York Jets close in on hiring a head coach.
According to reporting from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy will interview for the Jets’ job on Saturday, with NFL reporter Benjamin Allbright adding that he has become the leading candidate to take the job.

McCarthy has been somewhat picky in taking interviews during the hiring period, but he didn’t hesitate to sit down and talk with the Jets. Part of that may have to do with the fact that they have a young and established franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold that he’s interested in working with. This apparently bears watching, as there appears to be a lot of mutual interest between the organization and the coach.
