Conventional wisdom has suggested that Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is clinging to his job, especially after Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers. That might not be the case after all, however.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” Monday and revealed that the Dolphins do not appear to be close to making any sort of coaching change.
“The Dolphins, obviously, have had a disappointing season so far. Everybody knows that you have to win to avoid facing some of these questions,” Schefter said. “But I don’t get the sense that it’s (happening) anytime soon. Could that change? Of course. But ownership has wanted to be patient with it.”

The Dolphins blew a 17-point lead on Sunday against the lowly Panthers, which only raised further questions about McDaniel’s job status. He looked like a beaten man walking into the tunnel after falling to 1-4 on the season.
A previous report suggested one of two things would have to happen for Dolphins owner Stephen Ross to pull the plug on McDaniel. Neither of those things have happened yet, but as Schefter noted, things can change very quickly in the NFL.
McDaniel is in his fourth season as Miami’s head coach. He is 29-27 overall, but is in danger of missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
