Oakland Raiders open to taking quarterback early in NFL Draft
The Oakland Raiders have answered one of the biggest questions surrounding the team.
Raiders GM Mike Mayock spoke with the media on Thursday and acknowledged that the team could take a quarterback early in the NFL Draft.
“Derek Carr is a franchise quarterback and we believe that. Beyond that, just like at any other position, we’re going to do our due diligence. If we found somebody we liked better or thought had bigger upside, you’ve got to do the right thing for the organization,” Mayock said.

Jon Gruden and Mayock have both shared their public support for Carr, calling him a franchise QB numerous times. But Mayock is now laying everything out there and keeping open the possibility of them taking someone who might be better.
There has been some thinking that the Raiders could draft a QB at No. 4 overall and keep Carr so the rookie can spend the first year learning from him, easing his transition into the league.
If Kyler Murray ends up going to Arizona No. 1 overall, the Raiders could have their choice of quarterbacks after that. We know just the guy they might want.
