Pacman Jones is set to become a free agent if the Cincinnati Bengals do not re-sign him before March 8, and it sounds like the veteran cornerback knows his actions in the final game of last season could come back to haunt him.
In an appearance on PFT Live this week, Jones was asked about the Bengals being unable to get over the hump in the playoffs, including their recent loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I know I lost my cool in the last game,” he said. “That won’t happen again.”
Jones wasn’t the only one who lost his cool. His unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and Vontaze Burfict’s brutal head shot on Antonio Brown (videos here) essentially handed Pittsburgh the win. Despite that, Pacman believes that was the exception for Cincy, not the rule.
“I won’t say discipline (was a problem for the Bengals), though,” he said. “Discipline didn’t lose us … I would say it lost us one game, which was the playoff game. Besides that, coach (Marvin) Lewis did a good job of making sure everybody was on the same page.”
Jones will turn 33 early next season, so he is probably looking at a one- or two-year deal at most. His reputation won’t help him if he hits the free agent market, regardless of his promise to not lose his cool again.
