Report: Redskins could pass on hiring general manager
The Washington Redskins may reportedly pass on formally replacing fired general manager Scot McCloughan.
According to Mike Jones and Mark Maske of the Washington Post, Washington president Bruce Allen is leaning toward giving the traditional responsibilities of the general manager to various people already employed by the organization.
Director of college scouting Scott Campbell, director of pro personnel Alex Santos, and senior personnel executive Doug Williams have all had large roles since McCloughan’s firing, and could continue to be more prominent, with Allen holding final say on all football decisions.
A league source said the team has yet to submit a plan to the NFL regarding how they will fill the GM vacancy. Such a move could get the team in trouble with the NFL if there is contention that they failed to follow the Rooney Rule regarding minority interviews.
There have been candidates formally linked to the GM position, but it is unclear if anyone has actually been contacted or any interviews took place at any point.
