Robert Saleh is a coach who was expected to receive interest for head coaching vacancies this year, and so far that is the case.
The Cleveland Browns have requested permission to interview Saleh, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday.
Saleh has been the San Francisco 9ers’ defensive coordinator under Kyle Shanahan since 2017 and is known for his enthusiasm. The 40-year-old coach played college ball at Northern Michigan University as a tight end and has worked in the NFL since 2005.
The 49ers’ defense was ranked eighth in the league in points allowed this season and second in yards. That’s a huge turnaround after being 28th and 13th in the same respective categories last year.
In addition to Saleh, the Browns have interest in Mike McCarthy and Greg Roman, among others.
